Research
I am a research assistant in the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group Computational Modeling at HU Berlin under the supervision of Dr. Fritz Günther. In my research, I am particularly interested in the areas of Natural Language Processing, Computational Cognitive Modeling and Metascience. I am also a PhD student at the Department of Clinical Psychological Intervention, FU Berlin, working on my dissertation “Understanding Publication Bias Using Large Language Models and Behavioral Methods.”

Projects
Computational Swinging Lexical Network Model
Goals
In this project, we implement the “Swinging Lexical Network” model (Abdel Rahman & Melinger, 2009, 2019) as a functional computer model. This model assumes that during speech production in the presence of task-irrelevant stimuli (distractors; e.g. the simultaneous presentation of another word when a picture is to be named), similar words to the target stimulus, but also to the distractor, are always activated. If these are then strongly connected to each other, this influences processing differently than if they are barely connected to each other.
We estimate the model parameters from the data sets of many published studies and use the optimized model to make concrete predictions for new stimulus material. These are then investigated in empirical studies.
